Walborg treasures - Exclusive Beaded Purses

I want to introduce the most beautiful and delicate purses I have ever seen: The Walborg Collection.
It was Hilde Walborg Weinberg who founded the company in the late 1940's in no other city than New York. She designed all of her bags, only using the best and finest materials and manufacturing processes available at the time.
By the 1950's the bags and purses had become very popular and Hilde Walborg was one of the desired designers of her time.


In January 1954 her new showroom on 149 Madison Avenue in New York opened its doors.

From the beginning and up to the 1950 the Original Walborg designs were crafted in Italy, France and in Belgium. Original purses show it on the tag.
Later the Walborg Corporation had many special bead designs manufactured overseas such as in Hong Kong or China. Unfortunately there is no further company information available after 1963.

Vintage Bleeker Street Dress - Jonathan Logan - 35$ only

Some weeks ago I was at this estate sale and I  found this cool vintage dress but I wa snot sure about this brand.

Today I found the story conected to the label which is Bleeker Street. Wanna know it too? It's kind of interesting:

Bleeker Street was a design of  Jonathan Logan who was a popular manufacturer dresser for the younger women. The style was classic and dressy but not super trendy.
The small company with 10 employees was founded in 1944 by David Schwartz. His designer of these days was Dorris Varnum, and later in the 1950s it was Jeanne Carr. The company was very successfull and Jonathan Logan had become one of the largest ready to wear companies in the USA by 1966.
Jonathan Logan built up the collection to fourteen different brands, each one for a different consumer group. Youth Guild and Butte Knit were two of their lines. Bleeker Street was created by Jonathan Logan in late 1966 to promote the Carnaby Street Boutique popularity. It was in existence until about 1974. 

In the late 1960s, David Schwartz's son Richard was made the head of Jonathan Logan. In 1985 the Schwartz family sold their interest in the company. Thank you for the information from http://www.vintagefashionguild.org/

SAKS FIFTH AVENUE

Ladies, if you love sophisticated clothing the name Saks Fith Avenue means for sure something to you. But we all might now the name and not the history behind this exclusive brand.
Well, it started as a joint venture between two of the largest retail establishments in New York City:  Saks and Co, and Gimbels. 1924 they opened the first time their doors, and it was from the beginning the high-end clothing store for men and women.
Horace Saks who supervised the store, died in 1926 and Adam Gimbel became  the president of the company until 1969.
Now, who was in charge of the designing? Nobody else than Adam Gimbel's wife,  Sophie Gimbel. She designed under the label Sophie Originals, and it was carried by Saks'  high-end department, the so-called Salon Moderne.
There you could find Sophie's designs amongst other French Paris designers such as Louise Boulanger, Chanel, Vionnet, Patou, Schiaperelli, Agnes, Reboux and Callot Soeurs.

In the 1970s they closed the couture and custom salons, as well as the millinery departments. Still Saks stores were built across the country, but without the level of customer service that had been available at the New York store during the Adam Gimbel days. The days of the Haute-Couture were over indeed.
